Of those in this space, then maybe broadlink are best placed, but really I dont see anyone with the will to design a nice remote. The biggest problem I suspect for other entering this space is they only have about 1/10th of the device database that harmony has. Much as I have always hated their software (seemed like a minimal effort that was never really improved over time, different functionality on phone and PC version etc), I always though their remotes (especially the cheaper companion) were rather nice considering that they have to be generic. As I am the author of a plug in extension for the Roon music system to integrate with harmony, then I have been looking for alternatives and in the end I am actually putting together my own functional equivalent based on a separate wireless remote, wifi ir sender and writing my own control code to host on a raspberry raspberry pi. There are many cheap alternatives that do part of what harmony does, but nothing to actually replace it. NEEO esque device with Logi software would be spot on. It would be good for Logi to palm it off and let a smaller team run with it though. It is a shame it’s come to this, but as mentioned CEC has probably put the nail in the coffin. The One/early harmony devices were brilliant. But they don’t have the same feel of build quality/functionality that the original One offered. My Harmony Elite or ultimate or whatever they are do the job. It never realised its potential as NEEO.Ĭontrol4 have probably done what was necessary to move this on to the next level, but I ain’t forking out any more! Its a shame, because the NEEO kit was well built, or at least felt it. But it’s not off the shelf type tinkering, so 90% of users will probably be out of scope. Theres a team of guys trying to tinker/unlock the old NEEO hardware to at least be able to make use of it. It never really worked as promised, and development never really panned out as promised, to the point whereby I bought two Harmony Elite and ran them alongside. sadly 2 are still with me as doorstops, since they sold out to Control4. I backed and received NEEO on Kickstarter, Infact I bought 3.
